New from Postcrossing!

I have gotten some wonderful cards from Postcrossing to share with you!

First we have one from Holland!  The home of wooden shoes!!  How cute, huh?Holland

This next card is from Zurich, a city in Switzerland.  It has multiple views of Zurich, and it is so beautiful!  I really love the family of swans…and the way the bridge reflects on the water makes it looks like an eye!!!  Switzerland

This card is from the Republic of  Belarus. The capital there is Minsk.  In this picture you will see the Cathedral of Holy Spirit that the sender tells me was built in 1663 and then rebuilt in 1741 because it was damaged by fire.  The cathedral was closed in the early 2oth century by the Bolsheviks who were the Communist party of the Soviet Union but opened today for all. I found a lot of pictures of this beautiful Cathedral but not a lot of info.  So a big thanks to the sender for sharing!

Here is a card from someone that is from Taiwan but is in Xiamen to study.  He tells me that this is not Xiamen but is a famous view in China.  My daughter asked some of her Chinese friends at work about this view, and they said it was “Xi Hou,” also known as West Lake in the city of Hangzhou.  It is a famous tourist destination which has the nickname “paradise.”   Such a beautiful picture!

China

And last but not least this one is from a Russian girl that is living in Denmark.  It is taken from a Danish movie called Nøddebo Rectory (English title)  or Nøddebo Præstegård (Danish).  It is a family Christmas film from 1934.  It looks a lot like It’s a Wonderful Life.

Old postcards

So here are a few cards I would like to share.  These my daughter bought for me at a little shop she found on one of her trips to Paris.  They are very old, and two of them were never use but one was actually mailed.  They are very interesting.

The first one is a beautiful picture of Paris.  You will notice on the bottom of the picture it lists all the things that can be seen here.  Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle, Pont Neuf, Statue De Henry IV, and Pantheon.

Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle, Pont Neuf, Statue De Henry IV, Pantheon

Next is of Parc Monceau.  It is known as one of the most attractive parks in Paris.  It was owned by Duke of Orleans in the 18th century.  He purchased it in 1769 and hired Louis Carrogis Carmontelle to design the gradens in an English style with a pavilion in the center.  When the Duke was executed in 1793 during the French Revolution ownership reverted to the public.  In 1860 it was sold to the city of Paris and Thomas Blaikie was hired to redesign the park.  He removed several sculptures and structures and created a more traditional French formal garden.  Between 1876 and 1878  Claude Monet created a total of five paintings of the park.  Cool huh?

Now this next one is the one actually mailed.  Also of Paris. I tried to find some info on Le Square d’Anvers and  I only got Hotel information and the rest were in French so I have nothing!

Now for the message on the back.  My daughter did what she could to translate it for me, but she had a hard time making out some of the letters, so the following is just a very general idea of what it says.

My dear Yvonne,  I thank you very much for the sweet card.  I recited (to) my love, and I will send a card from Noirmoutier to arrive soon (or soon as [I have] arrived).  Give a big strong hug/embrace to cousin G— as I hug/embrace you.   Your Andre’  Paris, July 20,1911

Hi everyone!!  I received a few postcards this week!! Yay for me!!  This first one is from Germany.  Bad Tolz it seems is a marketplace.  It is very beautiful!  I also found this link that is so cool.  http://www.360cities.net/image/bad-toelz-market-street-pedestrian-area#62.04,5.58,70.0  This card came to me from a family stationed there and through my dear friend Crystal!!  THANK YOU ALL!! Feel free to send all you want! 😉

Germany

This next one came from Seoul, South Korea.  Sent from a friend (Thank you!) of my daughter, Brian.  What beautiful flowers!  It seems that these flowers are growing around chimneys in Amisan Garden in the vicinity of Gyoteajeon Hall, Gyeongbokgung Palace.  These were built to draw smoke off of fires that were used to heat the floors in the Queens quarters.

This last one is from Adam in Poland.  He tells me this a picture of the biggest castle in Poland and Europe and was built in the XIII century.  He also signed it with (hope I got this right):  Życzę Ci wszystkiego najlepszego! (I wish you all the best).  Thank you, Adam!!

My thoughts outside of postcards!

Standard

Well here we are in a brand new year!  I was just thinking about all the things that have gone on in past years and realized that something we often take for granted is friends!  I am thankful for all of my friends and would do most anything to help each and everyone of them but we all have one that is closer to our hearts than all others.  I know I do.

This friend is someone that I think everyone would be so lucky to have.  She is smart and beautiful inside and out! She would give you the shirt off her back if she thought you needed it.  Just call her and she is there…no questions…just there! I have never called her and not found her in the middle of doing something for someone!

We have been through most everything together.  Men…loved and lost… financial struggles…surgery…hers and mine…cancer…jobs..you name it I am sure we have been through it together!   We have cried together.  We have laughed together.  We have embarrassed my kids (this we still do as often as we can) together.

We live very separate lives now days and we sometimes go a while with out calling or talking. But we both know there is a bond and that no matter how long that gap is we are there for each other and can pick right up where we left up like there is no gap at all!!

TammyD I love you!  I hope you know that.  Thank you so much for everything you have ever done for me and I also want you to know how important you are to me in my life.

If you have a friend like this leave a comment.. I want everyone to know what my friend means to me.  Please share if you have someone like this in YOUR life.

Happy New Year!  I wish for everyone the best this year has to offer!

The post cards I will be adding next will be from the huge group I received as a gift from my daughter for my 50th birthday!

This was one of my all time favorite gifts EVER!  She talked to friends, family, work mates and pretty much whoever would listen she even had her husband talk to his friends and fellow workers!    Asking them to send postcards to me from all over the world.  I received these postcards over several month leading up my birthday and some even after.  I was like a kid checking the mail everyday!!   So here we go. I am so excited to share these all with everyone!

Isn’t this a beautiful sunset…or sunrise? yep I am going with sunset.

Another of the Unique variety!

This one my daughter sent me while she was in Germany on business.  I don’t think she actually visited here but thought it was beautiful. It is a medieval castle of Wurzburg it is called Marienberg fortress.  You might be able to tell that it was fashioned in a tri-fold so it was to long for my scanner and my photography does NOT do it justice.  I hope you can see it well enough to enjoy it.

I have a couple postcards that my daughter sent to me that cannot be scanned because of their unique shape or design.  Here is one that is a replica of a botanical garden.  As you can see the box folds into a mini garden. It came with a packet of seeds and you can actually put a little soil in there and grow them!

A mini living botanical garden!

She got it from the Uncommon Goods website:  http://www.uncommongoods.com/product/postcardens

The packaging, however, says that it’s from Postcarden.com.
